Squirrel

Look what he did!! He stole my tulip bulbs which
I left them near the window and he ate them all!!
He comes to my balcony and digs up my plants
all the time.... What should I do??

Cheeky fellow!!! I've no idea what to do?? Maybe squirrels don't like certain smells or something like that ( I'd try google, if there's a squirrel repellent out there, I'm sure it'll be on there ;-) ) Good luck

With wild animals you have 3 solutions:
-kill him
-feed him
-catch him and release him in a nice place.

It would be sad to choose the first solution. I love squirrels, don't you?

i´m sorry, but i find this hysterical! squirrel problems in the middle of the city? i think you´ve made a new friend... he is cute though...:)

Looks like you've acquired a new friend :) Trip to the shop for some nuts might be the only option :)

I totally agree with Del4yo!
You made a new friend :o)
Find some hamster food and don't make too easy for him to catch it, that would kill the fun part for him too!

Oh my poor Natsumi! This squirrel is so cute! I really don't know what you could do! Maybe you should go to live in a forest! It's so funny to see this little animal in the city! Good luck!

Poor bulbs! The squirrel was hungry or naughty !!Funny!

I don't mean to laugh, but it is funny. The little fella probably doesn't even like tulip bulbs and would prefer nuts, but being in the city beggars can't be choosey.
I gave up planting tulips because either my squirrels got to them first or waited to they were bloom and ate the flower right off so all I have is a stem with leaves.

If it is any consilation the squirrels and chipmunks have eaten all of my strawberries. LOL...

Enjoy. xoxo

...love him ; )

But he's so cute!!!....Do nothing or spray the tulipbulbs with a nasty organic spray, so he may dislike the smell and leave them there...I don't know. I would even put some more bulb, just to have him come back and visit me more often ;-)

Squirrels seem just oh too cute to me - here in Australia I have the same problem with possums eating my herbs. (No answer to that either!)

i think i would feed him and afterwards learn him some good manners, it is nice to have a squirrel on your balcony :)

peu de personnes ont le bonheur de voir un écureuil venir manger sur leur balcon !
I think that if I was you, I will buy a lot of tulip bulbs for him !;)

what a rascal!

i like the idea of leaving nuts out for him, to distract him from your tulip bulbs.

The nerve! I caught one knawing on some basil in my shrinking herb garden.. Who knew!!!???

Oh, no!! I'm so sorry! However, this post is DARLING!! Maybe leave a bowl of nuts out with a note asking him to mind his manners! We have colonies of squirrels in our neighborhood. I don't find them so cute anymore...

can you grow tulips indoors? keep your new friend...feed him nuts...he's so sweet! i see him having a co-starring role in your blog! :) yes, a new york squirrel can be a fun furry friend...

But if you feed him, he might bring his friends along ;-)

he is a thief, but look at him! so cute! i know some people sprinkle hot cayenne pepper on their plants to keep critters away, but i don't know how effective this is. i know! you should get a life size, cardboard cutout of yourself and place it on or near the balcony ;)

what a lovely friend but what a dilemna ...

After the girls power, animal power!
why not? Give it a special box for nuts, not for tulip bulbs or you can do that ;) :

i wonder - did he feel a bit sickly after eating the tulip bulbs...? cheeky fellow!

i'd try putting some nuts out for him and maybe paint a little natsumi sign saying: "no tulip bulb eating on this property!" ? i'm sure he'll understand... :)

you can try using a piece of acetate and wrap around your pot. Make sure it tall enough. I used this way to protect my plants from the rats in the company. It works to me, and the plastic acetate help my plants grow so big because it keeps the moisture.
I will take picture and show you.

Get a cat is a good idea too~

a nuisance, but quite adorable (kind of like some guys i know)

I gave it a second thought...

Puting some chiken wire on my most fragile potted plants ( over the dirt, with a hole for the plant) protected my plants from my lovable dug digging little boy. Might work with a squirrel. And then I love Trollette's idea : feed him but don't make it easy.
The little guy should be entertained and you too!
